DREAMS
The "Drowning" dream:
In the
middle of a grassy field on a hill top, there was a log cabin. At both
gable-ends there was a tree. I was a soldier in uniform, a plain, pale-green
uniform and I was firing a rifle at another soldier...presumably, the
enemy... from beside the off-side track at the front of a tank. Peeking
around from the right gable-end of the cabin as I looked at the windows and
main door of the cabin, a soldier, crouched down began firing at me. I was crouched down on one knee. I saw a flash from the
mussel of the soldier's rifle and watched in trepidation as the bullet came
towards me in a sort of slow motion and I watched in horror as it entered
into the bicep muscle of my right arm. I felt no pain, but my arm was
useless now; it would not move when I tried to move it. I dropped my rifle,
stood up, turned and ran down the hill towards a perimeter wire fence. I ran
along the fence looking for a hole; a way through it into the field beyond.
I was being chased by many soldiers, and felt fearful of being caught or
shot, so I moved on and found a small hole through which I clambered and was
now running alongside a small brook, which had a depth of a couple of inches
of water running along it. I came to a path across the brook, which covered
a pipe through which the water continued to run alongside the fence and
field. I stopped on the path just above the pipe underground, anxiously
looking behind me...the soldiers were getting dangerously closer!
I looked
down at the water passing through the pipe and saw I was suddenly standing
on a ledge, high above a ravine. The water as I looked down, now looked like
a long, snake-like bootlace etched deeply in the ground some 400 metres far
below. I knew I had to jump off the ledge and down into ravine below to
escape the soldiers...so I launched myself off the ledge. Down and down I
fell, tossing and turning in the air, the full force of gravity gripped my
entire body and I felt sick with the falling sensation. Then suddenly, the
water came at me like the speed of light and I landed on my feet, crashing
into 2 inches of water...unscathed...I could not believe my luck! I turned
to hide inside the pipe, but somehow, it had transformed itself into a
massive cave-like cavern, the sides and roof of which suddenly began to
cascade down into the water before me. I knew I could not enter and live, so
I turned and ran downstream. I went at the run, splashing my way through the
shallow water, and then the water appeared to get deeper and deeper. Soon I
was wading through it knee-deep, then I was swimming. I swam for my life and
noticed as I progressed, the river was getting narrower and narrower. I
passed under several bridges, they too were getting narrower and smaller.
Suddenly, I found myself swimming into a 2 metre diameter pipe half-filled
with water. I continued along inside the pipe, which was getting narrower
also, soon I was under water swimming in a frenzy towards the end of the
pipe as my lungs were about to burst in my chest. When I eventually found
the end of the pipe, I could go no further as there was a grill closing the
end of the pipe off at which I pulled and pushed to release, but it was all
in vain...I had no more air in my lungs and just as the grill gave way I
swam out of the pipe into what seemed like a deep lake, but my lungs
gave way and water gushed into my mouth and filled my lungs. I struggled
helplessly in a choking agony as I drowned. It went momentarily dark, then I
opened my eyes...no more pain, no more fear and I was breathing the water in
and out of my lungs as though a fish would through its gills. I felt
weightless and at peace...then I woke up gagging for air!
